BREMME, Emil. A brewery owner from Wuppertal-Barmen (D) and friend of Ettore. His first Bugatti was a type 13 (IZ 38937) used in competition in 1923/4. A well-known picture shows the road-equipped car (with competition number 29) at the "Groβen Herbstpreis des Kölner Automobilkubs" ; note the absence of front wheel brakes. This was followed by an early type 35 (4393) supplied through agent Alfred Noll in Düsseldorf in December 1924. He is pictured driving this car (fitted with headlamps, competition no. 32 with registration IZ 61837) in “Bugatti” by U.Hücke , p.331. He was a competitor in the 2000cc class for private owners at the Herkules hill-climb in Germany on 30th May, 1926 and is listed as finishing third in his class. A rear view photograph of this cars shows an extremely large and correctly presented German number plate and a very well-stocked intrument panel. Other non-standard features are an access panel in the car's tail and small-bore pipe or cable running to the rear of the car. (The car was then modified by the fitment of a bizarre "razor-edge" hardtop). In May 1927 he upgraded to a 35B (either 4842 or 4853) which was supplied through the Omnia agency in Munich and used in competition during 1927 starting with the Wiesbaden "Hohe Wurzel" hill-climb on the 24th May. (He kept this car until around 1930). He later owned a 35B (4878) which was photographed in the forecourt of his factory fitted with unusual bodywork by Karosserie Bachman with twin spare wheels mounted on the car’s tail in the manner of a type 55. His “Bremme” badge, seen in the picture of this car, is in manner of the Bugatti badge. He was obviously a serious admirer of the marque and later owned 44375 with engine 103 (with a Gangloff Faux Cabriolet body) and a type 49 with Gläser roadster coachwork. |
