Dr. Josef A. Fuchs from Nürnberg (Nuremberg) was the first owner of the Royale 41121. He also owned various other Bugattis, among them a T46, T35C, and T35B (#4806). Anybody able to share a photo of this gentleman? |

Hello Michael, In the book Bugatti Royale, le Rêve Magnifique by Paul Kestler there is an old photo of an elder man with 41121 which I presume is very probably Fuchs. This (copyright?) photo is not on the forum (yet) but there is another in the 41121 folder on the forum showing the same man:  Ik believe the photo in Kestler's book is the same as pictured on the dustcover of The Bugatty story by L’Ebé Bugatti  (from Amazon) Hope this help you. |

Did Charles Chayne also change the color? As far as I know, when with Fuchs the Weinberger always was dark + yellow. The picture also shows the 4 new carburettors on the engine. |

Michael, you are right. Chayne put on the white paint so it must be him. I cannot imagine that there is not a ficture of mr Fuchs to be found. |

With reference to the people in the photos - the person with the white Weinberger Royale is Charles A. Chayne - those with the Klem L26AX reg-D-2170 (aircraft) are Dr. Fuchs on the left and Horst Lattke on the right - the photo was most probably taken in 1932 - Horst Lattke is also shown sitting on the running board of the Royale with Lola Fine together with two terriers given to Dr. Fuchs by Ettore Bugatti. The person sitting in the GP car is not Dr. Fuchs, as he did not wear glasses, but did wear a crash helmet when he drove his Bugatti type 35s - he was one of the first to do so. The photo showing part of the Royale was taken by Charles A. Chayne on the 4/5th July 1937 when Dr Fuchs visited the Roosevelt Raceway in New York to watch the practice for the Vanderbilt Trophy, won that year by Rosemeyer driving a V16 Auto Union. I am quite sure he is. The car without any reasonable doubt is the ex-Momberger #4806, and also the location has been identified - Wiesbaden Auto Week 1929. The car is in rest position, so no need to put the helmet on already. Unfortunately I am not allowed to post the full photo here. |

 Without wishing to deviate too far from the original topic, I wonder if anyone can confirm or refute that the Dr Josef A. Fuchs mentioned in this thread has any connection with the chap identified only as 'Fuchs' in this photograph, originally found elsewhere on this site, of the #55 Bugatti Type 37A #37282 at the Nurburgring in 1937. I'd also be grateful if anyone can confirm the year in which the photograph was taken, which if correct was taken when #37282 was ten years old ? If the photo was indeed taken in 1937 it would be too late to be Josef Fuchs- he had left the country by then and would have been in New York, wishing he had put antifreeze in his Royale. |

The guy is Richard A. Fuchs from Ransbach (Westerwald), nothing to do with Dr. Josef Fuchs. The year is indeed 1937, and obviously this was a one-off for Herr Fuchs. I really wonder who is the source for this being 37282... |
