LLOYD, T.E. “Ted”. The owner, in the early fifties of a “type 35B” (4748) fitted with a 51 chassis. The modifications included increasing supercharger pressure to 15lb, fitting an ENV preselector gearbox and locking the differential. The engine which had started life as a 2 litre 35C had been obtained from Eri Richardson in the USA where it had been fitted with a new crank to bring it up to 2261cc (see Bugantics 16/1/37). The car was entered for Prescott on 24th June, 1951 but no time was recorded. In the same year Lloyd purchased the ex-works type 51A, known as the Pierre Veyron car, from Roger Labric for Richardson to import into America. Lloyd also supplied Richardson with type 50 components and the remains of the 2 litre ex-Czaykowski, ex-Esson-Scott type 51C engine. He lived at 1, Powells Lane, Welshpool, Mongomery, Wales. |

There is a slight inconsistency in the sentence above as the generally accepted rule is that the chassis frame carries the identity of the car. What I am missing in your description of Ted Lloyd is that he was one of the worst Bugatti history destroyers that ever existed. No Bugatti entering his shop came out with either the correct components or even worse with the same identity. All Bugattis with a history of having been close to Ted Lloyd are suspicious. To be fair, he was based in Wales. The only good things coming out of there are the M4 and A438. And before anyone cracks on, I lived on the borders for 15 years. SB |

With every Bugatti there is a chain of history, good, bad, and ugly. I am not sure if these discussion will take place in 30 years, so much of the real inside facts are fading, and whats printed is all that is left. Time marches on. Thanks for all the feeds and comments.... |

So the engine was obsolete, and may have found its way to Richardson. However, afaik it was no supercharged engine, as #4748 was an early 1926 car. |
