OWEN, Dr. Geraint.

A Welsh lecturer in Mechanical Engineering now living in Herefordshire.

He has successfully competed in VSCC events with self-built vintage specials and is now developing a methanol-fuelled “35B” from a kit of bits he took over from Peter Wigglesworth. His aim is 200 bhp to enable him to be a front runner in vintage races.

His first race in a Bugatti (in the 2005 “Williams Trophy Race driving a borrowed 35B) resulted in a convincing victory ahead of a field including several more experienced drivers in professionally prepared cars.

Meanwhile he is keeping fit driving the resurrected Land Speed Record breaking “Babs” which his father rescued from its grave under Pendine Sands around thirty years ago.

The man drives a car that practically decapitated its first owner? Ballsy. No wonder he's quick in a Bugatti.

Being raised in the wettest town in the UK in the mountains of North Wales is very character building.
