Several people have requested a place to be able to introduce themselves. Now that I have created a place for foreign languages, I decided to create the introduction forum as well.

As the owner of this site, I will introduce myself first:

I am Herman Brouwer, born the 11th of August 1975 in Gouda, the Netherlands.

It was not until 2001 or so that I became interested in Bugattis. And this story begins with an Alfa...

My father once built an Alfa Romeo model car, produced by Pocher. These 1:8 scale models are not the easiest to build, and require maintainance to keep them in shape. After some years of neglect the model was given away. This must have been somewhere between 1985 and 1989. In 2001 I checked the Internet to see if I could find something about the Pocher Alfa. I did find the Alfa, but also found the Pocher Bugatti (type 50T Profile and Surprofile). These were stunning cars! After some searching I managed to purchase these models. I also found other Bugatti models, which I bought.

Over the years I gathered a nice collection of scale models. I created the Bugattibuilder.com website to display them. After VW removed their forum from the bugatti-cars.com website, I decided to start a forum to fill the gap. The rest is history...

Last August I married my girlfriend, and icing on the cake was a ride in the Bugatti type 40 of Bart Rosman. (Bart, many thanks!)

----
I will probably enhance this post over time, but at least this is the basic story.

Newest addition to the collection of Bugatti models:

Bugatti type 40 Grand Sport (Bugattiana) in 1:43. This is exactly the wedding car that I could use, so I am extremely happy with this kit. Needs to be built though...

I also noticed there are nice wedding-figurines in 1:48 for sale (did not find them in 1:43...). Would make a nice diorama:

Needed to dig this one up.

Another 3 (!!) additions that I have to add:

-1. A Bugatti type "Baby" replica (in parts)

-2. A Bugatti type "Baby" replica (built)

-3. The Bugatti Royale Coupe de Ville in 1:18 by Bauer. (1:18? Actually it is a 1:16 model...)

What can I say about them, in short.

The unbuilt Bugatti "Baby" will keep me busy for at least a couple of months.

The built Bugatti "Baby" is a splendid car. Unfortunately the company that produces them, choose to use standard available tyres, which make them look a bit odd. The rest of the car is very nice. For authenticity it could use some older looking items (amps meter), but all in all it is a very handsome car.

The Bauer Bugatti Royale is very nice, but being a 1:16 model instead of an 1:18 makes it look odd beside the 1:18 CMC Bugatti type 35. (which really is 1:18 scale). Also the fact that the body is mounted too high on the chassis does not help. As I am complaining now, I will continue: The chassis is painted red, as Bauer says "to emphasis the amount of detail" but black would be more periodically correct. The interior is blue velvet-like material. Better than the prototype, but the baroque material (as in the Franklin Mint 1:24 version) would be more appropiate. (or black, but then the whole car should be modelled like the original as it was in the 30's.). The doorhandles are too oval.

Is the model any good then? Oh yes, it really sets the standard very high for other modelmakers. Surface treatment of all surfaces is very nice and convincing, the doorhandles operate door latches, the hood latches work as they should do (tweezers included to operate them!). The detail is splendid, and Bauer has been so nice as to include a spare rear view mirror and elephant, in case of damage.
Also included is a wooden base with mirror, to be able to view the underside. Real adventerous modellers can take the body off of the chassis, by undoing 6 screws, the control rods of the carburettor and the steering box.

So all in all I am very happy with the model, which displays very nicely next to the Franklin Mint type 41. Lets hope other modelmakers will produce more 1:16 models.

Believe me, I am moderate in length at 1.8 meters, and I have no idea of how adults would fit in.

As far as I know, some of the Royale chassis were red (eg. the Binder), as far as I know the front of the Coupé Napoleon Royale, the visible part of the chassis, is NOT red.

The interior blue is correct, the baroque material as is in the car now, was put there by the Schlumpf brothers.

Congratulations with the replica T52, is this the one from Marktplaats?

Hmmm, I could try that. Perhaps rivet some feet rests on the sides....

Yes, this is the "Marktplaats" one.

I will start working on the picture-showing issue now. All the half-pictures look really odd...
