The start of another type 35B and type 59.

A collection of new and original engine components is today being advertised on the The Bugatti Page from the estate of the late Barry Price. Also on offer are components from car 48XX.

Questions.

Does anyone know the source of these original type 59 components ?
Does anyone know who Barry Price was and when he became late ?
Does anyone know anything about a chassis no. 48XX ?

I will give it a try, with limited knowlegde:

-1. The original Type 59 parts originate from Molsheim.

-2. Barrie Price was (edit: IS !!) a guy that compiled a couple of books, and the revenue of those books went to the Bugatti Trust. He is also the guy that crashed an Atlantic. (not many can say that, perhaps none now...)

-3. There is no chassis 48XX, so that must be fake.

Can I continue for the refrigerator?

This is all a little strange ,I am happy to report Barry Price is still very much alive and well, you may ask how know this its because we have just had a very nice chat on the phone. he does not know anything about any of the lots .

In terms of 48xx there were 2 cars through Turin (T35A)that had numbers in this range and 2 that went to Sicily but who knows?

Maybe the vendor has been sold a pup? I have never come accross him before is he a bug specalist?

Great ad if you want to collect details of everyone building or looking to build a composit GP car!!!!

Who might want that type of info????????

Car BC 085

A type 59 “recreation” issued with a UK BOC chassis plate (BC 085) on 5th July,1994. The car was offered for sale in Spring 1981 by Coys of Kensington. It was advertised as a type 59 manufactured to exact type 59 specification by Barry Price (sic) and containing numerous original Molsheim components. The car was said to be road registered with road equipment and electric starter. It is pictured with low mounted headlamps and fittted with Dunlop racing tyres. Later owned by J. Braam Ruben in Holland, then D.C.M. Stiles in the UK with the registration Q56 HDU.(?).

Sorry GCL I think something may have been lost in translation between English and Welsh. Barry did not say he had never had anything to do with 59 and 51 parts just that he did not know anything about the current ad or who now has them .As I said he is very much alive and well. His work on 57’s is very well known from my brief conversations with him I would have to conclude he is a lovely chap and very knowledgeable.

I guess there is a slight mix of facts here. The T59/R owned by J. Braam Ruben was purchased by him in 1993 when the project by Barry Price was only halfway but with a 9 month finish date. It was 1996 before a more or less running T59 lookalike was delivered that later needed a lot of attention of specialists to make it a proper running T59/R.
This can not be the car offered for sale by Coys in 1981.
