In Conway' s Grand Prix Bugatti 2004, has the Type 35C not the letter "C" with the engine number.
Also the T35B has only the letter "T" with the engine number, not "TC".

With wiki "C" and "TC" are indicated:

What is now correct :?: Who knows it :?: Thanks

The factory referred to the 35B as the 35TC (T= Targa (2.3) C= Compresseur)

Sorry, I misunderstood.

Wiki is indeed incorrect

Type 35, 35C, 36, 37, 37A (37C), 39 and 39C have no letter after engine number
Type 35B (35TC) and 35T have T after engine number
Type 35A has A after engine number

Wiki refers to " Magnum" of Conway and Sauzay. It is Magnum which is incorrect !

Thank you Uwe

One thing is for sure is that Hugh Conway is wrong. In 1968 he says one thing, in 1989 another and the current edition of Grand Prix Bugatti reverts to the 1968 list.

The most meticulous book on Bugattis every written is by Lennart W. Haajanen and relates to 35C no. 4928.

Every number on the car was meticulously recorded (2 pages of them). The engine number is quite clearly listed as 179 as is the crank handle drive shaft. However, the cranckases are marked 20C and the cross member cum radiator support is 39 COMP 70.

In Memoirs of a Bugatti Hunter 35C no. 4928 is listed with engine 179.

In 1968 Hugh Conway gave 179 as did David Sewell when he prepared the 2004 update.

Bugatti Magnum (1989) however says 179C which I'm sure is incorrect.

I must go out into the cold now and work on my Chapel.
