It would seem that Robert M Lee has repeated his 2006 Pebble Beach triumph, this time with a 1937 Horch 853 Voll & Ruhrbeck Sport Cabriolet. I will post a photo as soon as I can find one. Johan |

This awfully proportioned car actually WON? It's even uglier then La Vache! Does the jury only count the square feet of chrome??

So we are all in agreement then? Pebble Beach 2009 Car of the Show SUCKS!!!!!. P-B 2008 was nice, I quite like Alfa Romeo 8Cs, 2007 the wrong Duesenberg won, 2006 belonged to Robert Lee's Daimler (I liked that one), and 2005 belonged to Sam Mann's Portout bodied Delage D8-120 (quite possibly the most beautiful car ever - in my personal opinion), and didn't another Horch take 2004? Didn't like that one much either. Not that it matters much ........ I spent the entire 2009 dreaming of a long-lost classic of great beauty and elegance taking Pebble Beach only to discover the judges picked a wheeled Herman Goering as the winner. Still, now at least I know how the Romans must have felt when Caligula declared his horse a Senator. Kind Regards Johan Buchner PS. It was a lost French Marque ; then the Germans raised the dead, like uhm... Lazarus, you know? I admire the Veyron, really I do, it's just that the philosophy behind its creation has nothing to do with what Ettore believed in. At least today's Lotus' still keeps true to Colin Chapman's core beliefs. The Veyron is many things, indeed, many great things even ; it just has nothing in common with the cars from Molsheim. I really don't know why Ferdinand didn't just call this monument to his own meglomania a Piech (spelling?). Still, at least the Bugatti name continuous. God that Horch is ugly. Johan |

All photographs courtesy of Supercars.net.   I wrote : "God that Horch is ugly." Okay, maybe ugly is the wrong word ; but it is not subtle is it?  Not sure about Voll & Ruhrbeck's effort on this T57 either, but then again I've always had a sneaking admiration for well-executed vulgarity. Like taking an innocent T35A and turning it into a polished-to-look-like-chrome T51. And just to make Bugwrench, Lazarus and Sandy Leith reach for the smelling salts, I love that left-hand drive T57S/59 roadster designed and built to the specifications of one Mr. Ron Kellogg - a patron of the arts the likes of which we have not seen since the de Medicis. Claire as much as I like what Robert Lee did with the Daimler, I will always remember this car in brown and sable, the way it was when I first saw a photo of it. I was still a little boy and even then I recognised her as something special. But she deserved her Pebble Beach win, the restoration was beautifully done. Not the most 'correct' of restorations, the scuttle/bonnet area being quite 'improved', but a stunner nevertheless. If I remember correctly you told me you grew up with this car?
