I do know that these were (most likely) the Type 51 wheels that were on 37265 (as seen in the Autocar and Bugantics articles in 1950, and in the old sports car pictures on the wiki page of 37265). When Otto Zipper owned both cars in the 1960s, for some reason he took these Type 51 wheels and put them on 37228, and took the Type 35 wheels and put them on 37265.

Also, the wiki for 37228 says that the 2-litre 8-cylinder engine was likely changed when Chatard owned both cars (37207 and 37228) in France. Original engine no. 140 of 37228 is now fitted to 37207, also ex-Chatard.

However, I would add that this also likely could have happened when Otto Zipper owned 37207 and 37228 all around the same period from 1955 to 1961.

Also, does anyone know the asking price of this car?

I just checked the Competition Motors website, and this car, 37228, is no longer listed.

Does anyone know who purchased it, and for what price?

Andrew:

How do you know that about the wheels? ;-)

The car was purchased by Michael Gans who will keep it in the US and allow prior owner David Van Schaick as well as his uncle (Donald Koleman) to use it in VSCCA events. He will also use it when he is over here. No idea as to purchase price...

We know for a fact that the monoposto was 8 cylinder with Chatard because when DeDobbeleer bought all of the cars from his widow, he wrote a piece for Bugantics which had photos under the bonnet, showing the T35C engine.

Cheers,

Sandy

Dear Bugatti69:

The photo you posted is not 37228...it is what was then called "4944" and thought to be a T39A when owned by DeDobbeleer. It came to the US as shown via Seldon Loring who sold it to Arnold Engborg, a Boston area Alfa-Romeo enthusiast. Arnold removed the enveloping body and started the process of building a GP body, including a tail made, largely, of wood. The late Bill Leith, bought it in 1963 and sold it in 1970 after completing Engborg's work and actively racing it in the early VSCCA. After a number of owners, including Donald Koleman, during whose ownership the car's identity was established as 4867, the car returned to Italy (where it was originally delivered) and is now owned by Giovanni Stabiumi of Brescia.

Cheers,

CK

While you are correcting things in the register for 4867, the color photo of the T35B with the New York license plate is not 4867...it is 4882 when owned by David Schiff of New York City, NY.

Cheers,

CK
