Look , the pipe has 5,6 mm inside , 24,6mm². 10 pipes have 246mm² . A pipe with 18 mm inside has 254mm² . Do you think I can cool this size engine if I use 18 mm hoses and pipes ?

I need to check.

A radiator with a single pipe of some 8mm exterior diameter (thin walled) and a size of 14x14cm (some 70 cm of pipe) can dump 120 watts of energy easily, with the coolant temperature rizing to about 30-35 degrees C.

Your pipes are similar in size, multiplied by 8 (so roughly 800 watts per 70 cm, or 1200 watt per meter). How many meters were there in the radiator?

This would then keep the coolant at 35 degrees C, which is overkill. But at least it gives you an idea.

How many HP does the engine supposed to have? Or how many fuel will it burn? This, together with the estimated efficiency, gives you the number of kW that you need to dump.

A fan is mandatory! (or get the car running)

Today I had manny test runns . Engine is running very good . I did use a bigger water pump. It is a marine pump , it can build up pressure and suck . But it did not help , I can not get any water through this radiator . This is the main problem , no water is going through this radiator . The pipes are to small with 5,6mm inside , and I belive with 150 soldered conections , some are blocked .

That will be a new radiator then, or test all 8 pipes and see which are blocked, or to my feeling, which are NOT blocked.

At least you seem to be a radiator expert as well...

In the radiator of a Ford Escort, there are narrow metal strips that are twisted like spirals, then inserted in the pipes, to increase efficiency. On top of that, I would increase the diameter. If the radiator is too efficient, there is always the possibility to plug one of the pipes, or even install a thermostat in a hidden place (oops, what did I say here!)

The first Type 5 and Type 4 had only 1 radiator . But about overheating problems , the exaust manifold is inside the water jacket , both cars got 2 radiators .

Indeed I see a second one on the old photo above. And at standstill there is no fan to blow air through the radiator.

The radiator had no openings It is brazed , and not soldered . To open it , I had to use the milling machine .

Do you mean they closed the ends of the pipes (one is visible) during manufacturing, and forgot to open them???

I mean the small internal pipes. They stick into the larger pipe which collects the water from the 8 small pipes. Were the small pipes closed? (the end of them)

the ends of the small pipes are open ( I hope so , maybe not all ) . Just one of the big pipes , the one collecting the 10 small ones are closed from both sides
