If an original T35B costs you well over a million, it is logical for those of us who are not billionairs, to try some cheaper solution to have some Bugatti driving fun...

One can buy a T40, not the same as a T35B.

One can build one's own, but this needs a lot of knowledge and time and skill which most people lack at least two of. In the end one still wouldn't have an original T35B.

One can buy a reproduction, not the same as an original, but still with 95% of the driving fun.

One can buy a VW-based replica, not the same fun, but 75% of the innocent standers-by and lookers-on will admire your classic. Certainly not the same as an original....

Which one to chose, is very personal. However, one should be honest about what the automobile is....

Many people have a reproduction "scream" by Edvard Munch hanging on the wall, and still enjoy it. Others put on a similar face when they see one of the Argentinian PS's.

Totally right,

I prefer to see a PS replica driving down the road than having an original locked away.

Always when an expensive collector item is made in mass production it makes a problem .

The value of the already built PS cars will not increase as long as they continue to build them.
To be honest if someone is spending a lot of money for a PS with a false title without knowing that it might be a replica at a fraction of what an original might cost than it is his own fault.
What is better, a replica with enough detail differences that it can be identified as a replica, or a copy that is well done with some "alibi" original parts in order to make believe that it is an original?
The first one might not be totally legal because at some point of time someone has to tune some documents in order to get it on the road but in the second case quite often those documents are not any cleaner and all that is done with the clear intention to sell a fake as original.
It needs more than just an old title and some old nuts to make an original car.

If you exclude the 90% of replica Bugattis from a meeting with 50 cars in total you will end up with 5 cars in total and those 5 wouldn't go for a meeting either with such a low participation.

If I ask Bugatti owners , why do they not visit the Molsheim Festival . I get always the same answer . Not interesting, to many Argentina cars , no interest .

Meanwhile, there are places where PS cars are not allowed any more . For example . classic car meeting Baden-Baden . Jean Marc Lucas , made last year this decision .

Bad excuse from their side.
It's up to them to show up with their originals to change the ratio.
I'm sure that not the PS cars are the ony reason, may be the over all quantity of too many replica's of all kind of origin and untracable originality.

I haven't seen an original Type 5 either and as it is not existing anymore a replica must be good enough even on a Molsheim Bugatti meeting.
A copy among many others one could say but for sure the meeting would be less interesting without....

May be the headline of this thread should be changed into
"What do Bugatti name owners think of the Pur Sang replicas"?
Answer: they support them!

I am highly surprised that my posting here
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3964 didn't attract any reactions. The PS lookalike T51 refused for this year's Mille Miglia and then substituted by a T40 was an entry by Volkswagen Group.

Well, I do not know whether it BELONGS to them, but they had been the entrant.
Look here: http://www.1000miglia.eu/form/elenco_is ... cabile.php
No. 78 originally was the PS T51, which was refused, and then substituted by the T40. The fake Bugatti has registration from Ingolstadt, and all photos of it to be found at the web show Volkswagen as source.

Excellent story, I like it.
So VW could maybe give people a helping hand and some hints how to import and license a PS replica or have they also been fooled thinking that they bought an original...

But who cares, what they build today isn't a Bugatti either, even if they double the power to 2002 HP.

Greetings:

Who is responsible at VW for the historic cars ?

" what they build today isn't a Bugatti either "

So , how must a modern Bugatti look to be a Bugatti ?

Again? Rumours are that they thought they bought an original Atlantic as well...

Can someone check the details on their Royale? Statistics tell us this is probably a replica... :)

For sure not something that has a big part of its engine components in common with the ordinary VW range. An engine that's built on the same assembly line than those in northern Germany instead of Molsheim.
Who in this forum pretends to be the only one to build his, let's be polite and not call them replicas' at the only real place where Bugatti parts should be made?

What is the cost of the expertise of checking the authenticity of the car?
