Good effort.

I must say, that's the one off-putting thing for me about making a chassis, is that you practically have to make it twice!
I like the cheeky routing of the hydraulics, from half a yard you could barely tell it wasn't cable, well done.

Likewise, I'd like to see your chassis buck.

Most people I'm Britain would recognise them as pepper pots.

Hello Bernhard , "Büschelbrenner" sounds like a very logical name . Pepper pot explains it also very good . The german version Brause Brenner ( shower burner ). So what is it in french ? Can you show a picture from your Büschelbrenner ? I use one with 12 holes , but I believe a bigger one would be better . Do you have anythink to do with Aviatik ?

Thank you for the excellent photographs Bernhard.

I can think of several ways to cut the 20mm plate, CNC waterjet etc. but how did you put the correct side curvature in place ?
Careful press work using a template and lots of heat ?
Or cold, and clamping to the cross stringers a bit at a time ?

Very nice work !

Ralph.

There are further pictures which make it more understandable and maybe give answers to your questions:

I think I'll have to copy that jig entirely. I've seen other which have been made full width, but that always seemed unnecessary.

Had another good chat with David at the Bugatti Trust. Type 18 is out of the question, no drawings exist so at best it would be a fancy silhouette rather than a decent replica...

Tempting though a type 45 is, I think it's a little too ambitious for my cash flow / facilities and of course I'd like it finished before I'm too old to drive.

So as much of a compromise as it may seem, sorry Udolahr, I think a 37A may be the best way forwards. Castings are a bit more manageable at the very least!
