Are there books with more info on the Niniette boats? Or other sources?

The following picture / text came from the book “Classic Speedboats 1916-1939" written by Gérald Guétat. A great book if you are interested in the history of classic speedboats

The following text was added to the picture…

Under the hood of this speedboat is a 4.9-liter eight-cylinder in-line Bugatti engine with twin camshafts and a power output of 260hp. The hull of Niniette II was build by Celli in Venice.

Prince Maurizio Ruspoli won the world record for the 6-liter class with this boat on November 12, 1931 at a speed of 63.3mph. In this picture, the pilot is Divo, who won the President of the republic’s Prize at Paris in 1933

The exhaust seems to be on the wrong side? As far as I know, all T59, T59/50B cars had the exhaust on the left side of the car, in the Niniette this is on the other side! Have exhaust / intake been exchanged (as in one of the Bugatti Airplane engines), or is there a gearbox in front of the engine?

Anybody has any answers?

As an “amateur nautical engineer” I can tell you that in most old hydroplanes have the marine-gear in front of the boat. So the engines are in comparison with cars placed backwards. The reason for this is that the propeller shaft must make a certain angle with the water that is only possible if it is a long shaft. See picture below as reference.

This is not a Niniette boat, but Campbell his record breaking Bluebird. (Picture scanned from one of the Uffa Fox books….)

Ok, this would explain it sufficiently, thanks!

Of course it would be nice to have a full drawing of the "Niniette", as with the Bluebird you show. There were 2 or 3 Niniettes, does anybody know if the 2nd was a rebuild using parts of the first, or if it was an entirely new boat, with a new engine?

I seem to recall someone on this forum stating that they were developing drawings for this boat - which version escapes me. Any progress in that regard?

This is the best I can do for you. It shows the Bugatti engined boat of Vasseur but I don´t know if that is a Niniette. Better ask Martijn, he should know. Picture taken from Double Arbres by Jarraud.

Looking at the picture this is probably a boat with a Z-drive.

This is the Niniette 6, with hull and drive system by Bugatti.

The other Niniette's were made by Celli in Italy.
