I have posted numerous detailed pictures of one of the engines from this plane on flickr.com. Key in "20090524" and "La Vie en Bleu". The engine is now rebuilt with a new crankshaft and ready to fly - I do worry about it being stored in a remote unguarded building with people like Jaap Horst roaming around !

Well, I would like to know where the engine is at this moment, good start for a replica!

I suppose this is the engine Ray Jones sold to Dean?

Jones himself has another engine from the plane himself, there should have been 2 spare engines (at least), one is known to be in the Schlumpf collection, the other? Maybe never terminated?

very beautiful,I feel though that for use in an aeroplane EVERY nut would have been castlelated and wired. You cannot just pull over to the side of the raod and tighten up a nut in an aeroplane :P

Still my question remains, which engine is this?

Which engine number?

Engine No. 3: The engine at Schlumpf's
Engine No. 7: The Jones' engine
Engine No. 8: The engine Jones' sold to Martin Dean

It's the Jone's engine No. 7, see here : http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2437/357 ... d210_o.jpg

Does Ray still own the no. 7 50B engine or has it been sold?

It is just a thought but would it be desirable to have unguarded supercharger blow off valves in an enclosed balsa wood petrol fumey fuselage ?

Remember it is "just" a prototype airplane. My guess is that many things would need altering, before any commercial attempt could be undertaken.

Also I feel the engine is quite heavily adapted with modern parts. Or did they already have quick-disconnect connectors for oil lines in 1939?

About crown nuts: Some locktite will do....
