Does anybody have access to the T50B (4.7 litre, from the airplane) power curve?

It is needed for a replica project.

There is probably only one person with the ORIGINAL dyno papers.Charles Dean, who has spent years researching these motors and has one in his car.I spoke at length to him at the rally and he said that the best output was in excess of 500 BHP.Apparently the engines fitted in paris were only used to arrange the ancillieries, power take offs etc. They were not the definitive flying motors. At first the engines were to rotate left and right hand and drive the counterrotating props this way. This was abandoned and the final version was to have both engines rotating the same way. With a gearbox to change the direction of one of the props.Charles Deans motor was pictured on this site when displayed at the trust.

If we are discussing the T50B engine anyway:

What is true about the assumption of some that Jean used the external dimensions and looks of the T50 engine, to disguise a very different engine, purely for racing.

Or in other words: Is the T50B merely an upgraded T50, or are things fundamentally different?

The T50B has an aluminium block with steel liners,The T50BIII is completely different having an aluminium crankcase machined off flat above the diapham and with separate steel self supporting liners bolted to the diaphram and with 8 individual bronze heads screwed on.The whole surrounded with 4mm dural plate formed to the outside shape. It would have been very difficult for the uninitiated to tell the difference from one type of motor to the next.

Either Charles Dean of Ray Jones, who has the other engine. Do you have contact details for Charles Dean (send me an e-mail or PM).

At least for the front engine it is certain that it was not the flying motor, in the version as it was installed, it could not be started.

There is at least one 3rd engine, in the Mulhouse museum. I do not know of any others.

More about the replica on the BugattiAircraft site. It is not to be fitted with Bugatti engines, at least not at first.

Perhaps Indycar engines have a similar power curve. I have seen them being used for other "flying objects".
