As you probably know there is a series of Bugatti powered Speed boats from the 1930’s called Niniette I to VI. It is known that the Name Niniette is the family knickname of Lidia Bugatti. Up till now the reason why the boats where called Niniette was not clear to me. Was it a love affaire between Prince Ruspoli and Lidia… Well.. no… not at all…

The following text was found in Bugantics Volume 35 No 1 Spring 1972 and written by Hugh Conway..

I had not realized that her (Lidia Bugatti) family familiar name is ‘Niniette’, the speed boats of Prince Ruspoli had been named after her. She explained that Ruspoli was apologetic to her as a child for having to wait so long in the car while he and her father discussed putting a type 50 engine in his boat and that he promised to name the boat after her as a consolation!
