Ettore had some big pay-days with various railway and aircraft projects. Has anyone worked out how much he got paid for the de Monge type 100 project in terms of today's values ?

Interesting question, What we do know, is that he received 100.000 dollars for selling the license of his U16 to the Americans, in 1917.
This would be 1.5 to 23 million today, depending on the way of calculation (I used http://www.measuringworth.com/calculators/uscompare/)

What he received for the Bugatti 100P is not exactly known, we should look into the contract, maybe that gives some info .

Interestingly, Bugatti also designed the T34 aero-engine from 1923 on a contract for the government. And of course he sold a license for his aero engine to Breguet also, around 1920.

Does anyone know the legal status of the Bugatti concern. Did it deposit financial records with the Government?

Post subject:  Ettore's financial affiars.

I visited the 1961 (I think) Paris Motor Show.

There was a stand there displaying commercial enigines.

I got into conversation with one of the staff who spoke near-perfect English.

We had a long chat about Ettore. He told me that his financial affairs when he died were a disastrous shambles.

I have some small pictures taken at that time which I will try to scan soon and send to you.

My visit was on the last day of the show and I managed to buy the "Bugatti" signs used on the stand.

I still have them but when I put one on my workshop door the thieves tried to steal it.

I am eager to see the pictures.

About the attempt to steal the signs. That is the exact reason I do not exchange the Ford logos on my car to Bugatti logos...

John now lives in France and has a particular interest in the messy post-WW 2 period of Bugatti history.

Can some of you Frenchmen encourage to contribute some of his memories to this website ?
