The lobes are all cut on both cams. When i decide how i am going to drive the distributors i will cut off the stock on the back. I also put a photo of all the parts together as of today.

Very impressive, Steve. Must have been a hell of a job till so far.

I see you have also made cam covers already. Very nice.

Not bad for a magician... :D

It's a shame working takes so much spare time...

What was the valve diameter? 3/8"?

Just a hair under.

.370 diameter at the head. The stem off the head is .125 or 1/8 and the stem where it rides in the guide is .1875 or 3/16. Total length 1s 1.700.

P.S. I lied. I did not start the valves today. I'm looking to borrow a press to install the guides so i'll need a few more days.

It is going to look like a real engine, Steve. Can't wait till the moment the head goes on the block.

2 things at least at this stage:

-a gear train to actuate the cams (or use a chain)
-valve covers

Then a carburettor, I guess, and intake manifold. Do you plan on making it supercharged? Then another gear train for the compressor, the compressor itself, and a blow of valve. (otherwise you could get away with making a dummy compressor.)

Some odds and ends: Engine bearers, water pump, etc.

How do you plan on cooling and lubricating the thing anyway? It is quite a large engine, when running, it will probably generate quite some heat, and power. Perhaps making a water-brake is an idea? That at least keeps control of the revs.
Don't forget a damper against the noise.

I cant make it supercharged unless i learn how to cast aluminum SO i think i will put 4 OFFY trumpet style carbs on the side. Or i may try to modify a pair of weed wacker carbs to look more like bugatti carbs and make them updraft. That raises a question.

The cam drive will be a timing belt. There are sources on the net for exactly what i need but no one local. I would like to walk into a store and get the proper belt the first time.

Valve covers are made. Review the photos. I think i will cut off the cam gear cover portion and try to make some that look more like the real thing.

Cooling - I plan to make the four plates for the cylinder section and oil pan section. When i run the engine i will put two covers on the cylinder section that are finned and the air blowing from the fan should cool the engine.

Lubricating - I plan to mix oil with the gas to lube the cylinders. A dab of lithium on the cam lobes should take care of the cam. The rest is roller bearing.

Damper against the noise - NEVER!! The two pipes will come together like the real thing. After that there will be no muffler.

The head is completed. I added 1 new photo.

Next i will press on with the pistons, rods, and rings. My friend has also bought a welder for aluminum. He is almost good enough to let him make stuff for me so instead of the oil pan being one giant chunk, i think i will try to fab up plates and have him weld it together. Save a nice piece of aluminum.

It's moving along!
