I have his wheels as well, and indeed they truly improve the T59. I had these wheels in a type 57 Le Mans kit by Ruby.

Rather than disassemble the built diecast version I have, I found a kit of the Bburago GP like Ruby built. I took off the fenders from a road version, which fit perfectly.

I was not prepared, however, to discover that all of the following are molded in a single piece of plastic, which you can't tell from the built version:

Chassis, suspension, engine (except valve covers, which don't fit well), firewall, interior bulkhead/dash and gauge panel.

The big problem with this is that it makes fixing engine inaccuracies very difficult, especially fixing the intake manifold, which is far too big. And I'll have to cut off the gauge panel and make a completely new one, since it has a very bad representation of the body cowling molded to it.

Other modifications I was prepared for, such as the need for a spark plug tube and water tube, carburetors, etc.

Awaiting delivery of the April 1957 issue of Sports Cars Illustrated, which features 59124 on the cover, with a feature article by the great automotive journalist, Ken Purdy.

Yes, the Bburago models are relatively simple, which make reworking them a lot of work.

I just discovered this 1/32 kit of the Clarke/Ludington 59124 on eBay. I know that Pyro quality is notoriously poor, but does anyone have experience with it?

pretty nice for a 1960s kit. If you can buy it for near to nothing, why not. But keep in mind that it is 1/32. Detail is limited, but a dab of paint every here and there can make it look very decent.

Just received this eBay purchase (1/32 version referenced above) and amazingly for Pyro, it's quite accurate. They must have had access to the Clarke/Ludington 59124, and it helped with my understanding of the configuration of the spare wheel mount and the headlight mounts, both of which I need to adjust on the 1/18 (or 1/16) Bburago kit. Needs quite a bit of additional work, however, such as plug wires, etc.

Unfortunately, it arrived without the knock-off wheel spinners and had incorrect glass from another kit, but the seller credited my account and said I could keep the kit. Cool. I can deal with the Brooklands windshields, but now I just need to find 1/32 knock-off spinners.

Perhaps cut them from thin aluminium, such as a beer can.

Keep in mind the Bburago is 1:15, not 1:16 or 1:18. (based on wheelbase)

Yes, based on your earlier advice I measured the Bburago diecast against a T59 blueprint and it's slightly larger than 1:16. I would conclude that the scale of the Bburago classic sports cars from the 30s (Alfa, Mercedes SSK, etc.) would vary from car to car. Apparently, the scale is whatever is right to match the wire wheels, which appear to be the same for all of them.

As for the 1:32 T59, I'm watching an AMT GP version on eBay which may provide some parts for the Pyro version (or I may just use the fenders , headlights and exhaust from the Pyro version, which doesn't have chrome parts or rubber tires like AMT).

I guess Bburago indeed built their cars around the available (horrible) wheels. Or just to fit them in the box.

The first 1:18 Bburago car was a 1:20 Rolls Royce...

Yes, I thought at first it was the 1:18 Bburago dressed up with Ruby's wheels and with the front lights, fender cross-braces and exhaust pipe fixed for accuracy, but as mentioned, it's 1:43.

However, one thing occurs to me: Why do both this model and the Bburago have a row of rivets running along the upper curves of the hood and the tail? This isn't on any picture of the 1:1 59124 that I've seen. I wonder if the people who made the 1:43 were using the Bburago as a prototype for the body. Also, like the Bburago, this 1:43 only has one windscreen and lacks one for the passenger, the same inaccurate combined gearshift and brake lever part, and the interior is also black, unlike the 1:1 which had blue seats. The spare tire is likewise placed too high and too far back.

Here's the eBay listing. At this moment, it's going for 110 euros. The brand is listed as LES AMIS DU 1/43.

There's not much I could find on Les Amis du 1/43; apparently they don't exist anymore. Too bad – the detail is amazing. Just look at the yellow magneto wires on the dash. Here's a quote and picture from a nice website that also shows some outstanding Boissou models:
