Well done!

You press in sleeves to form the cilinder walls?

Yes. I still need to work out the water inlet and then sleeves can be addressed. I have the holes drilled and tapped for the inspection plates. I am going to make the plates next.

So good to see it going again.

The "pile of pistons" is from the old machine?

Yes. The pistons are scrap. The rods will be reused.

I have finished the upper inspection plates. They still need some hand work and a nice finish.

Can you reuse the old head?

I'm going to try. The problem I have now is that the valve guides are in the way for clamping and holding the head to do more machine work.

Nope!

I was standing in the shop just looking at the problem. Then it hit me. I bolted the cam boxes back on and took the valves out of play. All the water jackets and passages are cut. It's a little hard to see but the holes are there for the 4 flanges on top the head.

Has anybody heard from Inline8? I really need those drawings. I have no idea what i did with my backup disc.

Anyway HEADS DONE!!!

I can't see exacly the free space in the head, and other dimension, but there is a option to screw in the liners into the head first.
This combination can be placed on the block. The attaching bolts / tappering ends / nuts can be placed on a different place.

Free space is a set of slots under the head. and holes drilled into the head.

The liners must be pressed into the cylinder block to creat a water tight seal.

There is a difference between wet liners and dry liners.
Your solution is to use dry liners, pressfit to the bottom and the top of the cilinder.
Italian enginebuilders, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari used on some models ( Guilia and Daytona ) wet liners, slide fit to the bottom, seal with an O ring, No pressfit on top, water complete around the liner and the head gasket is the seal.
When you do a combination, screw in the liners in the head, so for the gastight you dididn't need an headgasket. Only an o ring on the bottom ( or on a shoulder ) of the liners, and a simple gasket at the head position for the top of the waterjacket and the head.

Never seen anything like it. I'll be doing some googling.

Today I managed to do a small bit. I drilled the final hole in the cylinder section to let the water in. After that I rebored the holes in the Crank support. I suspected something was wrong and i was correct. The holes were running off to one side. When I made the original holes the vise must have been skewed. The holes are perfectly aligned with the bores in the cylinder now.

Image

I also had dropped the part at one time and crushed one of the corners. I grabbed a corner rounding endmill and put a 1/8 radius on the top edge to hide the boo boo.

Image

I started making cylinder liners. If you remember back I bored the cylinder block thru at .930 and then bored the area above the water jacket .940. I did this so that the liner will drop into the bore all but about 3/8 of an inch. This should make the liner alot easier to press in. I did all the OD work first creating 2 bosses that match the cylinder block.

Image

The liner was bored to .050 undersized and parted off. The piece was rechucked and the opposite end was faced to .025 oversized. When the liners are installed the top of the block will be cut to bring the cylinder liners down to the block surface. The final bore will also be cut.

Image

The finished piece ready to be pressed.

Drops right in ready for the press.
