As far as I understand it, car 54201 has its original engine (no.1) still in place but (according to the 2000 Bugatti Register) it has been stamped with the number 501333 or 5013 (allegedly at the suggestion of Hugh Conway to facilitate its liberation from Czechoslovakia).

I assume the BOC take the view that a register records the numbers which are there rather than any numbers which may or may not have been overstamped.

The overstamping is (deliberately?) confusing, and a remark on the WIKI is definately in its place.

As the T54/50/46 numbers are stamped on the removable engine mountings it is all rather academic n'est ce pas? oups I forgot we are not to speak french ! :D :D :D
