From time to time postings are made which which contain factual errors.

A subsequent posting points out the error.

The original posting is then amended to eliminate the error so that anyone reading it in future is not misinformed.

In doing this the second posting is made redundant.

Is there some way these redundant postings can be removed to avoid further confusion ?

Oh yes, this could be done.

However, 2 problems: It would need careful reading by all moderators, and second, who would I be to alter someones posting. (I sometimes do alter postings, but in general just to repair image tags, or youtube tags)

Attach note to posting "This now appears redundant and unless there is any objection it will be removed after 10 days" ?

Did think about that while driving from work to home. However, this is a discussion forum, and perhaps many things will be said twice.

I guess the Bugatti Register is a better place for holding info.

I'm with Herman on this one ; editing a post after you've been corrected by someone who knows better is cheating. Far better to acknowledge the mistake and thank the person for his contribution. This way the correcting of inaccuracies becomes an exchange which benefit all. Speaking only for myself, I love to have my mistakes pointed out, it's how I learn. Deleting my screw-ups would smack of cowardice.
