Supercars.net has just posted a gallery of the 2009 Meadow Brook Concours. On the second page I found this rather glorious looking Alfa. First time I've seen this car, does anyone know more about it?

Having looked at it some more the rear of this body reminds me a bit of Gordon Buehrig's Auburn Speedster. But the wings look more European ; now I'm really curious.

The chassis number of this great looking Alfa is 2311237 according to the Simon Moore book

Angela Cherrett is writing the following in her book about the 8C 2300

“Registered on 3rd August 1934 by S.A. Alfa Romeo. this 3rd Series Lungo car was described as a cabriolet 3 posti and an earlier photograph showed two steps on the rear wing similar to those on the
Zagato 3-seater. The hood is concealed beneath a hinged panel infront of the rear hatch”

Thanks Martijn!

You have the Simon Moore work on the 8C2.3? And the 8C2.9? And the Angela Cherrett book? (which I was unaware of by the way). Congratulations!

I have been able to resist books on other marques for the time being ; but it's not easy. At all.

Regards
Johan

PS. Simon Moore travels to South Africa quite often and while I have not met him, those who have all describe him as an absolute gentleman and a really friendly guy.

Supercars.net often include photographs of chassis plates, so as can be seen Simon Moore, Angela Cherrett and Martijn are all correct. But I have no idea what the second plate is, any ideas?. I really love this car.

Johan

With my knowledge of languages, I can figure out that it's just about the valve-clearance and spark-plug settings; what they should be, and how often they should be checked.

And; It won't happen again, posting in a non-Bugatti subject!

So this is how the Auburn Speedster looks like. I see. I think this Alfa Romeo 8C 2.3 will look a lot better if we're going to buy new alfa romeo accessories.
