In wiki:
To clean is not enough.
How to prevent the access to the pollutants?
They are more and more.

They are more and more.

one week with 500 pollutants.

(more 500 pages created).

Wiki will be more and more polluted if nothing is done and will be blocked soon.

Can it be locked and secured.. then have any new changes requested looked at by a "panel of experts " or changes added within a select file or area [ rather like a "waiting room"] to be entered into wiki when approved. So all changes would be done outside the main locked Wiki framework and added when approved-no doubt after a possible open debate using the selected file/ area .One would then be aware of who is adding or changing-and who is discussing...still with freedom of access within the area.Genuine requests might then be the norm.
does that defeat its original use ? freedom of additions which seem to be up for abuse.. it may be necessary -or not have it at all-which would be a great loss.

These are no manual contributions but spam bots. Or in other words automated programs searching the web for easily accessible logins. Allowing user registrations without captcha is extremely careless, sorry to say.

It makes no sense to remove all this scrap manually, as the bots are always faster.

Recommended procedure:
(1) install captcha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA)
(2) delete bot fake users including their contributions, may be with a small tool

Only the Administrators can intervene to install captcha and clean Wiki.

The installation of captcha would make it possible to filter the new entries in wiki.

To clean wiki would make it possible to remove the old undesirable entries.

To clean Wiki, to see:
Special pages > Maintenance reports > Orphaned pages : total 1265 pages.

These pages are useless or were created by spam who pollute the data base.

How to remove these pages?
Only the Administrators can do it: Herman and Uwe.

Bugatti69, check your user permissions, you should be able to delete pages now.

I have installed an anti-spam safety measure. During registration, and when creating links to other websites, a question is asked. This verifies if the editor or subscribor has some (very basic) knowledge of Bugatti.

So far I have made up 3 questions, but I am open to suggestions for more questions.

Please test if the modification works for all. It gave no problems on my computer.
