Can anyone explain why the page for '54216' has been deleted from the wiki? As far as I'm aware, the car still exists, and it seems strange that the page has been completely removed. Why?

It is not 54216.
See 50 R Special-John Barton on bugattiregister.com

It is a Type 50/54 special, so should be listed under Type 54 specials. There is no original 54216, and it has never claimed to be a genuine Type 54. It is more 54 than 50 now.

specifications chassis : Type 50 or 54 ?
so T50 chassis > on bugattiregister T50/54
so T54 chassis > on bugattiregister T54/50

or on bugattiregister could be : T54 special

I would say either T54/50 or T54 special.

It is a legal requirement in england for a motor car to have a chassis number. When my car was inspected by the relevant authorities [ a retired policeman usually ] I was asked to stamp a number on the chassis.I gave it a T54 number that never existed from the factory. That way everybody would know that the car was not original but built up from parts. As far as I am concerned, this car is a type 50 special.Whilst the chassis was bent up to look like a T54 there are no T54 parts on this car except an empty gearbox case [ new C and G ] The actual gear box is a T50 transaxle at the rear. Why is this car of interest here?

I brought it up John, because it had disappeared from the wiki on its original listing. As you know, there is no Type 50 transaxle in the car now, and it should be even closer to Type 54 arrangement than ever before, hence my classification as a Type 54 special rather than Type 50.

Regardless of what our french friend says. This car IS 54216.That is the number allotted to it by the builder [me] and the registration authorities in the UK.He is of course quite free to write whatever explanation after this number that he feels is warranted. When I built it ,it had three out of five parts T50 [ front axle.gearbox and back axle] That is why it started out in my mind as a T50 special, made to look like a T54.The car has no relevance in the Bugatti story,it is just a sensible use of original spare parts.
