looking at your lovely car as found and ex C and G I wonder if it might not have been better to not restore it? It now looks just like a new C and G one ! The bolts on the steering box are too modern with the spec numbers on them.

Great info! Thank you, HHH, for the photos. And also a thanks to Lazarus, for the remark on the bolt heads.

At least I know now how to construct the steering box, and that I need to grind the markings off the bolts.

Authentic models has a more original box than Pur Sang...

You are maybe right, but over 20 years ago it looked like a good idea: the radiator was badly smashed, the front axle broken, wrong wheels and no dashboard gauge.

I will look at the bolts; thanks for the tip.

Wow, the car must have suffered quite a bit. Anyhow, it is in good shape and in good hands now.

It's not unknown for "reputable" restoration shops to replace worn or damaged Molsheim components with new items.

When Clive Jones tried to sell his car it transpired that original components which were "beyond repair" had scrapped by the restorers. "Quel dommage !" However, being English gentlemen they found him other original bits which he used in his Riley-engined special. (Note for compiler of the list of specials - the pictures show Clive's original eight-cylinder GP and NOT the subsequent special). Perhaps Lazarus has a picture of the latter ?

Mais oui bien sur mon ami. Here is indeed the late departed Clive Jones taking possesion of his toy.I do not know where the car is.Clive's girlfriend sold it [ probably without any right to do so ] to someone who turned up at the house. So the story goes.

JONES, Clive.

A Shropshire agricultural haulier who was the long-term owner of a type 37 which was rebuilt as a Junek-yellow type 35T. The car was a long-term resident with a UK restoration company but was only completed after its acquisition by Michael Steele. Clive then commissioned a type 37 "replica" from John Barton and had it fitted with a Riley 12/4 engine. On 15th September 2001 he died suddenly (aged 73) at the wheel of his “replica” Frazer Nash but neither the car nor his lady passenger were seriously damaged. The type 37 passed to his daughter Abigail but is thought not to have been used in her ownership. His obituary, written by his executor and friend Ken Painter, may be found in the VSCC Bulletin no. 235 p. 44. He lived in a former railway station at Rednal in Shropshire and owned a huge variety of interesting motor vehicles. (The type 37 is now said to be owned by the VW-owned company Bugattis SAS).
