I heard at the latest Retromobile that the car that competed at LeMans (see http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.ph ... arnum=2685 for pictures)
had NO CHASSISNUMBER !! It was somebody who ought to know (don't remember his name).

Somehow the car was not entered in the official records, maybe something to do with taxes or so?

Could very well be possible. If a car is not intended to drive on public roads, what is the need for a license plate, and even chassis number?

The story of this EB110 Le Mans is quite difficult to clarify.
First of all, I've got many doubts about the model. A lot of elements make
me believe it is not a supersport model but an upgraded GT. The model has
participated to the 1994 Le Mans Edition in june.... but pre serie model of
the SS were still running in april of the same year! I think it's quite
unbelievable that a race preparation were performed in such a small time.
You're right, there is no ID plate near the passenger door of this model but
I've contacted the Lohéac museum, and they gave me this information : it is
the number 86. That's all.... no complete identification number, just this
number.
This number could be assigned to a GT but in my opinion not to a supersport
in 1994 (the SS registration is quite different, and quite complicated).
However, I've seen the Le Mans version at the museum and all body elements
and parts are very closed to a SS. And I don't have the complete ID of the
car, that's the problem. A friend of mine will go to Retromobile this week
and will ask to see the engine. Perhaps an ID plate is still located in this
place. He will ask too if it is possible to have informations about the team
that had prepared the car for running Le Mans... I'll contact them later.
The page for this version is short on my site, but I hope I'll be able to
complete it soon!

It is Michel Hommell who had the idea of engaged a EB110 at the 24 hours of Le Mans 1994. This operation was assembled by Michel Hommell thus, with the assistance of the Bugatti importer for France then, in the event the garage Bristh Motors de Endgar Bensoussan. José Rosinski, old pilot and then collaborator of Bristish Motors, were going to be the sporting director for the tests and the race.

The engine was altered in Italy, according to the regulation of group GT1. The engineers having almost found the power lost because of the four supports to the admission of the turbos, the 600 CH were present of 6200 rpm at 7200 rpm. The very high couple (71 mkg) was available on a broad beach of use, from 4000 to 7000 rpm. This EB 110 chassis number #086, left factory in November 1993, was prepared, i.e. rebuilt, at Synergie, in the suburbs of Le Mans. With 1280 kilos, it gained 300 kg on the "road" version.

With the preliminary tests, with Alain Cudini, Bugatti created sensation; under tests qualifiers, with Eric Hélary at the wheel, it makes a success of the 17ème chrono (4' 16"94); turning regularly in 4' 22"/4' 24 ", after 15 hours of race it was 6ème . Hélas! It was necessary to change turbo (1 hour 20 minute of lost), then the three others. It will still fall to the classification but the crew was not decided to give up; it is during an increase a little too generous that Jean-Christophe Bouillon lost the control of the car in the second chicane of the Hunaudières. Too much damaged to join the stand (a wheel broken, the front axle distorted), the beautiful blue one was forced with the abandonment.

At the time entrusted Michel Hommell, that at summer a large disappointment. Fortunately, it did not completely break the car and one rebuilt it less than one month after the race. We more engaged it in race, in BPR championship for example, because it was Le Mans the objetcif one. today the EB 110 S #086 is one of the jewels of the collection of the Manor of the car of Lohéac.

Here a print of the artist Daniel Picot who illustrates well the loss of control of Jean-Christophe Bouillon in the second chicane of the hunaudières :

The GT was the original Eb110, then the supersport was produced, it was kind of like Mclarens F1 LM lighter with more power, and rarer.

click on the relevant links to read about the differences.

a Supersport is the enthusiasts choice 8)

A special evolution of the SS have been made : the "Le Mans" specifications (carbon bodywork, tuned engine with 700 bhp cockpit controlled adjustable boost system, only 3 models made).

damn those must be worth some money
