Two excellent pictures posted recently show Bremme's early type 35 (4393) and a type 43 on long-term road test with W.F. Bradley. Interestingly neither cars have the body screws wired-up. See also picture of 4395 in "Memoirs of a Bugatti Hunter" - a pristine new GP but no wiring at all.

Conclusion - new cars were supplied with body screws not wired.

Malcolm Gentry had a nice article about the Bugatti body screw in the latest online available newsletter of the Bugatti Trust. There the recommendation was to leave the bodyscrew a bit loose, so the body pane under it could move, and secure them from loss or releasing, by wiring them.

Also, if there is no need to wire them, why use these (expensive) screws anyhow?
