thank you very much.I did wonder about Gordini.Interesting about the iron curtain lorry. Was this gordini in east germany? or was the EMW concerned with racing in europe?

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I'll buy a genuine baby chassis plate for Monopoly money, how much do you want? ;)

Anyway, let's get serious for a moment : How did the "baby" end up being commonly refered to as T52?

possibly because the factory refered to it that? lol [stir stir ]

Do we have factory documentation to back that up?

At least some "Baby" Bugattis had their chassis no. stamped on the aluminium bulkhead - I have a photo on file of car 294 A stamped in this way.

With regard to cars which have lost their original bodies not being "real Bugattis," what does that make the car I've just bought (4289) ? Is it an "unreal" Bugatti
or should I call it the "Rosemary Burke Special".

Has Lazarus broken the news to his daughter that the pretty little blue "type 40" in the drive is not a real Bugatti ?

A little task for Johan one quiet afternoon in the library. How many "real" Bugattis are there left ? (i.e. cars which retain ALL their original major mechanical components and their ORIGINAL bodies).
Acording to my date base (which I have now agreed to discontinue as a result of threatened legal action) the figure is in the region of 230-250.

Perhaps "bugattibuilder" should publish this list of "real" Bugattis. No one could sue for saying a particular car is a "real" Bugatti (could they ?) provided the name of the owner isn't mentioned.

The grapevine is obviously broken as "the pretty little blue Type 40 "! is not in our driveway    It is north of Dover and east of London. There is however a nice Type 37 sitting in the garage for Louise when she wants it.Anything that one can trip over just has to be real 8) :D :D

Dear CGL-Wales

To add to the confusion there are a few totally intact, numbers-matching Bugattis that are so over-restored they cannot really be considered original anymore.

As to your legal problems, the following thought : Screw them. I say let's publish and be damned. If you use a Bugatti in public there can be no expectation of privacy. Send me your database, I'll publish it in full, including the owners. Like I said, screw them. I am fed up to the back teeth with these rich bullies who think they can deny us the right to freedom of speech.

Time to fight fire with fire. The war starts now.

Johan Buchner

PS. As to what constitutes a real Bugatti, I'll withold opinion untill I actually own one.

Then probably all those who are not in the list of real Bugattis will sue Herman!

Here are the pics.... Due to the lighting I was unable to get a pic/find the chassis number. The new tires/Tyres :) have not been fitted yet, and can be seen in the side of the pics. Also, next to the Bugatti is a very rare Ferrari TR child's car. Anyone have any more information on that? This baby was originally sold to DuPont after seeing the car at the Paris autoshow. Can someone please update the wiki with these pictures, I will get the chassis number when I have a flashlight/chance to move the car.
Erik

Looks great. Can you also make a picture of the steering box? As you might know I have a replica Baby in parts, with a missing steering box. Also a picture of the tag above the forward/reverse handle could come in handy.

The TR might be a PS. They had them on their site.

I also saw a site with a 1:2 Alfa P3.

Herman,
I will see this car again next saturday, and will take more pictures then. I will see if I can find the chassis number as well!

Is this it? Beautiful car, a Type 30, said to have a body by Lavocat et Marsaud. And non original SU carburettors. I would like to hear the owner's opinion of this car's originality. And a few more questions if you don't mind : Is this your first Bugatti? What's it like owning a Bugatti? What's it like driving your own Bugatti? Did you buy it in this condition, or did she require some work? Do you sometimes go into the garage and just look at it? And the last one, has ownership changed your opinion of Ettore Bugatti, and if so, how? Okay, another really, really last one : Were you looking for a T30, or specifically looking for this car?

Thanks
Johan
